Their failure to properly install an engine and do other work on our boat resulted in our boat crashing into pilings in the Hudson River in freezing temps. That was one of about 30 other problems we had, and one of about four which could’ve possibly caused the boat to have catastrophic failure, and or sink. To call their service incompetent is to give incompetents a bad name. We are still dealing with all of the myriad problems well over a year later. The mistakes they made, and the unbelievable lack of understanding of basic boat physics and boat maintenance and repair is astounding . Automotive anti-seize on a “dry”slip fit taper bronze prop shaft? Yep. Failure to properly paint, and treat a new shaft coupling prior to installing it? Check. Incorrectly sized and handed Prop put on the boat so that it went the opposite direction when put in the water? Yep. Attempted to connect two Morse cables together so that they bent at a 45 when the transmission went into gear? Check. (That’s what caused the accident) failure to use lock washers and/or aircraft nuts on any fittings so that everything rattled loose on the throttle linkage? Yep. Failed to tighten the rigging, and we only found out when the boat was in the water, when we were ready to leave, that the rigging hadn’t been tightened, and the mast could’ve fallen on our heads, in the Hudson at the end of November? Check. Secured the end of the Morse cable to the transmission with a loose nut and bolt? Check. These are just the things that could’ve killed us. I have a list of a dozen other things they failed to do. I have a pending lawsuit with them in New York State. Boat owner next to us took his family out and had myriad issues with work Scarano’s had performed as well. We are both willing to talk to you. Have your boat repaired or refitted here at your peril! ***Feel free to DM me, or reach out if you would like more information***

My boats have been winterized at his shop every year since then and I have never had a problem. His mechanics have always been the best in my opinion. My first boat went 25 years before I traded it in on a newer/bigger/better. As far as I know, that first boat is still going 32 years later. The second boat I bought from Al has been great including winterizations and all other services. I highly recommend Capital District Marina.
