I was quoted $110 to have a smoke test done on exhaust. Within 20 minutes of leaving that was turned into $300+ as I was told it would be a two hour job to test it (felt like that should have been known during the quote, or I would have definitely kept going on my own diagnostics, considering the purge was my next step). Less than an hour later, somehow it was diagnosed and within 2 hours ready for pickup. $525 is pretty steep for a $60 part and under 2 hours of work.

My car made a noise when braking that sounded like rotor grating. Brake pads had 4mm remaining. It was diagnosed as a busted inner fender liner. The sound going over bumps was not coming from the front according to their diagnosis; rather the rear shocks and shock mounts needed replacement. The diagnosis was worth it, but the cost for parts were marked up 2.5 to 3x what even I could buy them for. They did not want to install parts brought in; as they could not warranty them. I need not need them to guarantee them, as the supplier offered the same warranty. I ordered the parts and will take the car to the dealers service department. No AAA discount, but big savings regardless.
