I will preface this by saying I am not some drunken, hell raising kid down here on spring break. I'm a 31 year old professional with a graduate degree, and I am a former auto claims adjuster, which is relevant to this review. I've been riding motorcycles since I was twelve, and I have a bike of my own that I ride more than 15,000 miles per year. I know what I am talking about. Recently, I had the misfortune of renting a Fatboy from California Cycles in Panama City Beach, Florida. I'm on vacation, and I thought it might be fun to rent a bike and go and take a look around the area. I picked the wrong place. They had a lot of scooters that you see around here and a few large cruisers. I rented a Harley Fatboy at the rate of $150.00 for eight hours. Clearly, this is a lot, but I've been thinking about getting a bigger bike, so it seemed like a good way to get an extensive test ride. It had 41,000 miles on it, and it had several dents and dings but nothing glaringly obvious. They store these things outside, so it was pretty dirty. However, I figured any bike down here isn't going to be perfect. The guy who checked me out seemed pretty cool, and we talked about bikes for a minute or two before I took off. I spent the afternoon riding up and down the coast and having a good time. However, when I took it back, another guy took in my invoice. He told me there was damage on the front that wasn't there when he washed it the night before. Again, as dirty as this thing was, there is no way it had been washed in the past week. He then asked me what I had hit that would cause such a great damage to the front end of the bike. At first, I thought this hyperbole was some kind of joke. This was a small knick that didn't cover the width of a dime. It looked like it was caused by some small rock or other road debris. There was also some obvious weathering on the area, indicating that it had taken place some time ago. I told him I hadn't hit anything.
