Common A/C Problems

Summer is almost here and you'll want your air conditioner working properly unless you like the sweat-stained shirt look. A faulty air conditioner can be infuriating especially if you're in a hot area and sitting in traffic. While an air conditioner is not a new invention, there are several things that can go wrong. We've put together an overview of what to look for if you're having issues with the car's a/c system.

The A/C Is Not Blowing Cold Air

First, check to make sure that you can see fans that are on the condenser or radiator are running when you turn on the a/c system.

Inspect the cabin air filter to ensure that it isn't clogged.

Check the A/C pressure system and make sure the pressure is in accordance with your vehicle owner's manual.

Inspect to see if there are any restrictions that block air from passing over the condenser.

If Pressure Is Low, Check For Leaks

Check all of the fittings to make sure they are securely fastened

Check the hose manifolds on the compressor

Check the O-Rings sealing the pressure switches

Check for small holes in the compressor

Checking the Compressor

Turn on the A/C, and make sure that the clutch is engaging on the compressor. Set your fans to high and the temperature to max cool.

If the clutch is not engaging, you'll need to use a voltmeter to check the voltage reaching the compressor

If there's enough voltage, the clutch may be broken

If there isn't enough voltage, a fuse may be blown or you may not have enough refrigerant pressure
